Novembor Bloom Day

Chrysanthemums are special flowers, they herald the beggining of a new flower season with their amazing variety of non stop florist blooms. I got after mine on the first of August and planted cuttings with the help of a growth aid (rootex) three a piece into pots. Gave them plenty of liquid manure and one moderate sprinkling of NPK fertilizer. The trick to these guys is plenty of water and sun; and lots of doses of mild liquid manure. I think my 200 pots make a grand statement

On top are single yellow, in the middle a mix of single yellows and single purples. At the bottom are my favorite, yellow buttons. All put together in a three step pot holder.

October Bloom Day

This is my October Bloom Day... Took the flicks but couldn't upload them up to now because of a poor internet connection where this garden is located.. anyways its the documentation that counts.
October is a month when there are few flowers, most of the summer varieties tapering off and the winter ones still at seedling stage. The exception to this are a few african varieties and mainly Marigold. Coming in lots of varieties they gladden the eye with a mass of amber-orange hues. The best way to describe the garden in this month is as a Garden of Pleasing Fragrance as the jasmine family is getting active. Especially the Cestrum Nocturnum ('raat ki raani'), and the Cestrum Diurnum; looking at these hedges one is struck by wonder as to the number of flowers per square foot in these plants.
I start with the flowering annuals and these are followed by the permanent hedges.

Colocasia (Dwarf Cockscomb)

this balsam variety has been pretty irritating. Especially the taller one, still to come into bloom. The dwarf one though is very pretty and compact, will plant more next year. Also will sow the seed earlier next time around.

Cestrum Diurnum perfumes the air with an almost overpowering sweet fragrance, which emanates from its hundreds of corymb like white flowers

The first seasonal flowers of the colder season are very easy of habit and with a little care, they give plenty of healthy flowers in lovely yellow/ orange hues which begin to bud come October. They also perfume the air specially as the mercury begins to dip with a refreshing sweet smell.
